An easy fruit salad that’s a pretty addition to any table

In my family, Christmas morning usually involves a brunch/late breakfast — and no matter what time we’re eating, fruit salad is usually on the table.
Honestly, though, even before my little branch of the family started doing Christmas morning brunches, we often gathered at my Aunt Carol’s house on or around Christmas to celebrate with my mom’s side of the family. And no matter when we were eating, fruit salad generally found it’s way on the menu, usually made by my Grandma Polly.
Recently, while looking through a cookbook from my grandma’s church, I found the recipe. It’s not hard and mostly involves stirring together a lot of canned fruits, but it’s tasty and pretty to serve in a glass dish or alongside a simple pound cake or sugar cookies.
Easy Fruit Salad Ingredients
1 can pineapple chunks or tidbits
1 can mandarin oranges
1 can fruit cocktail
1 can pears, chopped (I usually leave these out)
1 can peaches, chopped
1 jar red maraschino cherries (don’t drain)
1 jar green maraschino cherries (drained, and usually only included at Christmas)
Grapes
Strawberries, sliced
Apples, chopped
Bananas, sliced
Pecans, if desired
Easy Fruit Salad Directions
In a large bowl, combine pineapple, mandarin oranges, fruit cocktail, pears and peaches with all their juices.
Add fresh fruit, saving bananas to add just before serving. (Alternatively, you can go ahead and add the bananas if you use a product like Mrs. Wages Fresh Fruit Preserver that helps keep fresh fruit from turning brown.)
Top with pecans halves or lightly chopped pecans, if desired.
Serve and enjoy!
