Friday: Left work early. Vegged out on the couch for awhile. Convinced Mindy to go to Moe’s with me. Ate way too many Billy Barou nachos. Made Mindy and Wendi watch Once with me. At first, I was like, what was everyone raving about with this movie. Then, I really got into it. And I’ve already downloaded the soundtrack. The music was beautiful. Stark, realistic, real. It made me feel the way I feel when I listen to Damien Rice, like I need to close my eyes and just let it wash over me, because this music is just too much, too beautiful, too real, too emotional. You can’t just listen; you need to feel it, too. I was emotionally involved by the time the movie was over and went home with a smile on my face. (If you do watch this movie, don’t be offended by the F-word. It’s set in Dublin, where they use that word like I use the word crap. Which means a lot in everyday speech.)
Saturday: Why—please tell me why!—they thought it would a good idea to mow the grass at my complex at 8:30 a.m.? It’s Saturday morning. On a holiday weekend. Some people try do try to sleep in! (And some peoples’ dogs bark incessantly when lawn mowers and/or weed eaters come anywhere near them.)
Most of today was filled with cleaning the house (the Mama is coming on Wednesday to take Muffin home with her while I’m in Orlando next week), doing laundry, and buying groceries. Which was a frustrating experience to say the least. First, I was trying to buy cilantro, limes, tomatillos, and such because I wanted to make salsa. But even though a bountiful spread of produce, there weren’t any of those plastic bags anywhere near any of it. When I finally found some, they were the huge kind for large heads of lettuce. At this point, I didn’t care, but I did feel kind of stupid and wasteful for putting one little lime in the huge bag. As I went through the store, I had frustrating situations in which it seemed someone was standing right in front of everything I wanted to purchase. And I’m thinking of writing a book about grocery store etiquette: what side to drive the cart on, what to do if it becomes clear that you’re standing in someone else’s way, reasons why you shouldn’t take up all the aisle and refuse to move. Because the world apparently needs to know these things. Oh, and when I was growing up, we were not allowed to pick stuff up in the store and eat it while we shopped. I don’t think many people pay for these things when they do it. Thieves!
In a crazy turn of events, I actually watched football tonight. Yes, I am the girl who went to one football game while in college. (We were NOT good when I was in college.) And, in my defense, my high school did not have a football team. (That’s what I get for growing up in the Midwest in a tiny town with a school that was too small for a football team. Plus we revered basketball.) But seriously, tonight I’ve had a great time watching football. I was working on magazine stuff and watching the MU game and flipping over to the Alabama/Clemson game during commercials. And all my yelling really disturbed Muffin the Wonder Poodle. She gave me the paw, I think! I’m pretty impressed with Maclin running 99 yards. The games not over yet, but I’m expecting good things for Mizzou. (But I do NOT like Alabama and they appear to be winning. Sorry, Scott!)
