It’s my hair and I’ll cry if I want to

Since I’m getting a haircut tomorrow (and feel free to offer suggestions. I reserve the right to call you crazy, though!), I thought it might be time to share a little tale with you. Basically, it’s the time I made my hair stylist cry. (OK, she didn’t cry. But really, it would have made the story SO much better if she had!)
Basically, what you need to know to understand this story is that sometimes I’m not very observant. This came into play mightily the last time I went to get a haircut. I’d had the angled bob haircut for awhile, long before everyone and their mom started getting it, and frankly, I was tired of having the same hairstyle as most of the female population of Nashville. So, I marched into the salon and informed Andrea that I didn’t want this haircut anymore. That everyone had it. That I wanted to grow my hair out.
What I didn’t take the time to notice and/or think about was that Andrea HAS this haircut. That Andrea loves that haircut. That Andrea is well known in the salon for her prowess at cutting that particular haircut. I watched Andrea’s face in the big mirror as I expressed my desire to grow my hair out a bit (I don’t think she thinks I should, but it’s MY hair!) and she looked a little deflated. That didn’t stop my from holding my ground, though, which frankly women sometimes have to do with hair stylists. They sometimes cut your hair however they want with no regard to what you’ve said. But I stood strong and came out with a more evened-out bob that would look better as it grew.
But I also left with an overwhelming feeling that I had hurt my hair stylist’s feelings.
Oh, well. It’s my hair and she still got paid, right?!
As an aside, I’m going to see Andrea tomorrow afternoon and still want to continue growing my hair out. I’m thinking collarbone length, so I’ve got to stand strong again! But my hair needs some pizzaz. Suggestions? I’m thinking of asking for lots o’ layers. Cause I love layers.
