I hate technology (not really)

I am not a technological genius.
This is quite apparent to those of you who know me, I’m sure. At work, my first response to any computer/technology related problem is to call IT. (Well, actually, first it’s to yell at my computer and call it names, then call IT.) Now, while I call IT about problems, whatever they may be, I actually really hate having to call them. Because at some point in the conversation, I am undoubtedly going to be made to feel stupid. That’s a given. My other favorite is when the IT guy decides that he has time for a “teachable moment” and starts explaining the whys and hows of everything to me. Here’s the deal: I probably don’t want to know how or why. I just want the computer to get on the Internet and let me check my e-mail.
By the end of our conversation, I had stretched the phone cord to its absolute limit, pulling the phone off of my desk, and was completely under my Mac table (in a skirt, mind you!) disconnecting and connecting cables. I also banged my head against the table crawling out. Fun way to start a Wednesday, huh?
The moral of this story, children: IT thinks it’s funny to make you do weird things like crawl under your desk and bang your head on furniture. They like to take up your time with surveys and explanations that you probably could care less about. And obviously, they give you something to complain and blog about. 🙂
