Dispatches

Yes, it’s kind of early in the week for “Dispatches,” but loyal readers, you’re just going to have to deal. Because it’s the best I can muster up today! So hold on to your seats, here we go!

• I’m working at home today. I have an appointment with a repairman to look at some problems with the brick under the bay window. Fun times. Let’s take bets on how much this one’s going to cost. I really am beginning to wonder about me and home ownership. I’ve lived here 3 years, now I think. (Geeze! Has it been that long?!) Anyway, in that time, the water heater died, the washer suffered almost fatal injuries, the air conditioner had to be worked on, the refrigerator had to be resuscitated, and now the brick. What else can go wrong? (I shouldn’t say that . . . something else WILL go wrong now!)

• I leave for Pittsburgh on Thursday. Hopefully travel will calm down after that. Hopefully.

• There are several new-ish songs out there with lyrics that leave me puzzled. The first is the Killers’ song “Human,” which asks “are we human or are we dancers?” OK, what does that mean? Because I love the perfect lyric as much (or more) than anyone else, but I don’t get that one. At. All. There’s also Kings of Leon’s “Sex on Fire,” a song I really, really love from a band I just sort of discovered I liked. But I’m not sure I want to think too hard on the lyrics—since it’s pretty clear what this one’s about. Which means it’ll probably pop into my head and I’ll sing it, outloud, at the most inappropriate time possible.  If you ever need a laugh, though, check out this site. It’s a site where people write what they think songs are about. Not the artists or songwriters, random fans.Which makes it funnier.

• I have an all-day meeting tomorrow. I’m already tired. At least it’s off-site, meaning I can wear jeans!

• I must get to work! Have a good day, guys. Leave comments. They make my day.
