Big words

My pastor is smart. He likes to read lots of books and discuss theology. But he’s a country boy from Virginia (shout out to Brandy!) and most of the time his preaching involves talking to us like we’re normal, semi-intelligent (but not theologians) people. Then, every once in awhile, he gets all caught up in whatever he’s saying and busts out some word that leaves a lot of the congregation scratching their heads. Yes, we probably know the words and, if we don’t, can figure them out from context, but still. . . .
Yesterday’s sermon included words like accoutrements (one of his faves!), esoteric, and circumlocution, which I heard as circumlocation, which isn’t a word and that tangent really distracted me. Mindy and I have decided to keep a list of these big words and compile their definitions. Then, when the list is long enough, we can hand it out to people as they enter the worship center. It’ll be like their own private dictionary/listening guide.
Either that or we could develop bingo cards with the big words he might use. . . .
