Around the office

Most of you know I edit a magazine for teens produced by a Christian company. I love my job (most of the time), and you’re about to see some of the reasons why. Here are a few things heard around the office:
Mandy and Pam looking at a map of the world. Pam: I need a map like this when I watch the news. Then I’d know where they’re talking about.
Mandy: Yeah, that would be cool.
Pam: What’s this country? (pointing at a blotch on the map)
Mandy: Um, that’s the Black Sea, Pam.

Me: What’s going on in the Juan Valdez room? (That’s our name for the coffee room. It’s on the door, like it’s his office.)
Fellow Employee: I don’t know. Nana called Facilities up here. They think there’s an electrical problem.
Said Facilities employees are banging on the walls of the office and otherwise making a HUGE clamor. It was later discovered that someone smelled something that she thought smelled like a hot electrical appliance. It wasn’t. Some unnamed fellow employee who never came forward had decided to warm up his/her coffee in a stainless steel travel mug. Yeah. We found the mug in the trash, hidden under paper towels. I think Nana may have fingerprinted it.

Quote from a random ec reader: “Ec is the magazine Jesus would publish.”

Me: “Mandy Moore is my hair muse.”
Me (to my then editor in chief): “Go to your office. And BE SILENT!”
Me, during a discussion about cover blurbs for an article about Bethany Dillon, a Christian singer: “Hey, what about Wake up with Bethany Dillon? See, she woke up to the call to share the gospel. Oh, yeah, maybe not the best way to say that.
