A musical mind

Songs get stuck in my head.

A lot.

I’ll be walking around my house, realize that in my mind I’m humming something, and suddenly burst out singing it. It’s usually a lyric that I found particularly poignant, like “I was made to hold you in these arms” from “In These Arms” by the Swell Season. Or “Go ahead and lead me on” from “You Can’t Break What’s Broken” by Charlie Worsham. Awhile back I was playing a game with some friends and couldn’t stop singing “The Whiskey Ain’t Working Anymore” and “I Want it That Way” from—wait for it—the Backstreet Boys. Sigh.

But the song that I find is stuck in head most often is one I don’t even hear that much. I don’t own it on CD, iTunes, or vinyl. But more often than not, about once or twice every couple of weeks, I’ll find myself humming it, always completely subconsciously and think “What song is that?” And it’s always, always, always Meatloaf’s “I’d do anything for love (But I won’t do that).”

Yep.

And it’s not like it’s the whole song. It’s just this endless loop of the chorus. Maybe even just part of the chorus. Over and over and over!

But a girl I work with who isn’t particularly musical says that she never gets songs stuck in her head. That she never finds herself aimlessly humming a tune. I find it hard to believe.

So what about you? What song do you get stuck in your head most often?
