This weekend in pictures

Seeing that I got to work and realized the amount of work that HAS to get done this week, in between meetings and other things, I offer you a short review of my weekend using lots o’ pictures. Enjoy. I’ll try to write more tomorrow!

Friday: Work! A lot of work. Left around 2:30 p.m. to go to my house, grab by stuff and my dog, and get on the road to Missouri. Finally got to Missouri around 7:30 p.m. I have a great picture of the sun setting on the way home across the long, flat horizon of Southeast Missouri, but I’m just realizing that picture is on my computer at home. 😦 [Oh, well. I took it from inside my car and there are a large number of bugs on my windshield that take away from the prettiness!] I got to my parents’ place; we ate some chili and watched the Cards game. At first, the game seemed great. Cards were winning. Wainwright seemed poised to get his 20th win. Then, McClellan came in to relieve Wainwright and everything fell apart. AND THEY LOST. BOO!

Saturday: Slept late (OK, until 7 a.m.). The farm had taken the day off, so my dad didn’t have to work. Ate biscuits and gravy with my parents, then went to the Fall Festival parade in my hometown. This means there were few floats and lots of farm machinery. And every emergency vehicle in the county. If there had been an emergency, I have no idea what we would of done. (“Hold on, sick person! The parade is almost over!) Some pics:

My dad and Eli. It was Eli’s first parade and people kept giving us suckers for him because he is so big that they think he is older than he is. He turns 1 a month from today!

It’s Missouri. It’s required that mules make an appearance somewhere in the parade!

All of the emergency vehicles we could find! Notice they are in front of a high school marching band. With their sirens on. Whoever was staging this parade did not think that through!

The parade also included anyone and everyone who had won a pageant in the last year. I think this is Miss Bernie. She was about to freeze to death. I would have just worn jeans and a sweatshirt and my tiara. It was cold and windy! Also: my brother and I decided that next year, we’re doing a float: 1997 prom king and FFA Sweetheart. I’ll allow you to laugh for exactly 2 minutes. Then you’re done!

My nephew wasn’t a big fan of his hat and took it off near the end of the parade. So I wore it. I am aware this is not my most attractive photo. I don’t care.

Later, we strolled through the booths in the park, then went to Poplar Bluff (made famous by “Designing Women” and Tyler Hansbrough) to pick up some wedding shower gifts my mom had bought for my cousin. During this trip, my mom’s Prius managed to hit 500 miles on one tank of gas! Proof:

We ate lunch in Poplar Bluff, then came home. I visited my grandma at the nursing home. Mom fixed a yummy birthday dinner complete with cake and ice cream. And, yes, my mother still gets us themed birthday cakes. Because it’s my mom!

Sunday: Got up, went to church with the parents, ate a quick lunch with the family, then got on the road to Nashville. It was good to go home to Missouri which will always be called home. But it was also good to come home to Nashville. Which will always be called home.
