Pray the Psalm
A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.
A psalm of Solomon.
1 Unless the Lord builds a house,
the work of the builders is wasted.
Unless the Lord protects a city,
guarding it with sentries will do no good.
2 It is useless for you to work so hard
from early morning until late at night,
anxiously working for food to eat;
for God gives rest to his loved ones.
3 Children are a gift from the Lord;
they are a reward from him.
4 Children born to a young man
are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.
5 How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!
He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.
—New Living Translation

When you pray Scripture, you’re praying God’s Word back to him. This practice can help align your heart and mind with his and helps you to focus on the truths God has revealed rather than yourself, your fears, your desires or anything that pulls your focus away from him. Using a translation you like, pray Psalm 127 back to the Lord. Confess any ways you’ve tried to “go it alone” and do things in your own power and recount the ways you have experienced his blessing and provision in the past, but also the ways you’ve seen him show up this week. Thank him for the children he has placed in your life and ask him to help you see the opportunities to invest in and support them. Pray that your family and your church family would be a living testimony of God’s faithfulness to the world.
