Write the Psalm
I look to you, heaven-dwelling God,
look up to you for help.
Like servants, alert to their master’s commands,
like a maiden attending her lady,
We’re watching and waiting, holding our breath,
awaiting your word of mercy.
Mercy, God, mercy!
We’ve been kicked around long enough,
Kicked in the teeth by complacent rich men,
kicked when we’re down by arrogant brutes.
— The Message
In your journal or somewhere you’ll see it throughout the week, write Psalm 123 in the translation that you best understand. As you write this psalm, think about who you turn to in times when you need help. In times of need, how frequently do you look to God for help and wait patiently for his response, watching and waiting for his direction? As you consider the final verses of the psalm, think about your life and the way you live it. Does your life testify that you believe in a merciful God who will act in power when the time is right?
