Greetings from Whitefield, NH!
Yesterday began with a lazy morning and breakfast at the inn. Mindy woke up before me and woke me up to see the sunrise. I have to admit, guys, I was comfortably asleep and buried my face in the pillows when she started talking. Then, I saw the bright pink sky and decided maybe she was right and this really was something I needed to see.
We had breakfast (including waffles with real maple syrup, another food revelation) and did some Bible study while looking out at the mountains from the windows. Then, we explored the grounds a bit, since we’d gotten here late and played in the leaves for awhile. (OK, well that was me.) Finally, we decided to get dressed for the day and search out some fun. We wandered into Littleton, NH to do some exploring. Once there, we decided we were hungry and popped into a local mom and pop restaurant for some steak sandwiches. They were stellar. And coming from the land where they try to pass off Philly steak sandwiches as roast beef with nacho cheese on top, these were WONDERFUL and greasy.

We also found Chutters, home of the world’s longest candy counter, apparently. It’s a Guinness World Record (at least the banner out front said so.) We loved that store. And left there with two pieces of fudge. Mindy’s was peanut butter. My was pure, unadulterated, sinful dark chocolate. It was worth it. My pants may not fit when we get back, but I don’t care. I’m on vacation.

After a morning and early afternoon wandering in Littleton, we wandered back to the inn. Mindy napped and we uploaded pictures and watched TV and read a little. We wandered down to the pub for dinner, then mostly lounged around for awhile doing mostly nothing. It feels good to do nothing sometimes, especially when you know no one is expecting you to be somewhere or to do something or whatever. Because lately, guys, I’ve gotten quite tired of all the expectations that have been laid at my feet. Taking a break has been nice.

Today, we’re making plans to perhaps drive into Vermont and down I-93 a bit to see some of the natural wonders and covered bridges of the White Mountain National Forest. Tomorrow, we head toward Boston.
