Just a listing of the thoughts and things that are going on in my life:
• You have to check out this out!
Does that sound like me? Let me know what you think!
• The games application on Facebook is addicting. I can’t stop playing the tetris-esque game with complete strangers.
• I wish I could teach the world about the objective case of pronouns. The phrase This is a picture of So-and-So and I is not correct. Using I in this case is WRONG. You would say, this is a picture of me, correct? Then say, This is a picture of So-and-So and me! It’s correct, I promise. I could go on for weeks about the intricacies of grammar, but just remember this, if the pronoun is the object of a preposition, it’s never going to be I! It will always be me, he, she (which is why This is she is always the correct response to a phone call asking for you.
• While I’m yammering on about grammar, let’s also discuss another issue I have with the English-speaking public as a whole: the subjunctive mood of the verb. Yes, we don’t use it all that often, but it’s a valid property of verbs about which we should at least have a smattering of understanding. If you’ve taken a foreign language, you’ve dealt with the subjunctive. Our friends in Spain and Mexico probably use it every day without a second thought. It’s the form of the verb you use in sentences that involve supposition, something you don’t think is true, or involve wishing, expecting, requesting, etc. So if Clay Aiken had understood the subjunctive, his grammatically correct version of the song “Invisible” would have said: If I were invisible. . . I’m off my soapbox now.
• The flowers I just planted outside my condo look much better in the mornings. I don’t think the heat is helping them that much!
• I want to go on a roadtrip or short vacation of some sort in the near future, but I can’t decide where to go or what to do. I don’t want to go alone, at least I don’t think so right now. Any suggestions?
• My brother is getting married on August 11. I’m a bridesmaid in a wedding in Nashville on August 17. If one more person says “Always the bridesmaid, never the bride” to me, I will NOT be responsible for my actions!
• Muffin is growing a ‘fro. If you’d like to see it or donate to the fund to shear her for summer, let me know! (I’m teasing!)
• In about a month, I’ll be going to Maryland for a week of camp. It seemed so far away when we started planning it! 🙂
