Question for the guys

What in the world causes grown men to think that yelling, whistling, and cat calling out of a moving car to a woman on the sidewalk is a good idea? OK, so it’s flattering (sorta) that you like what you see. It’s disturbing that you think the best way to get my attention or any sort of interaction with me by yelling at me and making me feel a little like a streetwalker, when I’m just waiting on a friend outside of a restaurant. (In case you’re wondering, yes, this happened to me today.)
I’d love to know anyone else’s thoughts on this subject. (All I can fathom is that it’s a guy thing. We girls may see a guy we think is cute walking down the street, but we’d very rarely stick our heads out the window and yell things at them. A tip guys: in my opinion, if you really like the girl, catcalling isn’t the best pick-up line. It just cheapens the whole thing!)
