Our Favorite Baking Blogs

At The Bookery, baking is obviously one of our favorite things. While we’re guilty as charged when it comes to having too many cookbooks, we’re also a big fan of baking blogs and the ease of using your favorite device to quickly pull up a recipe. In fact, we’ve found a few baking bloggers we turn to first when it’s time to try out something new.

We aren’t chefs; we’re home cooks who simply want to enjoy good food. So for us, the best baking blogs don’t feature hard-to-find ingredients, fussy recipes or incredibly fancy fare. These are the best for us because they consistently feature recipes that our families, friends and neighbors enjoy that don’t cost a fortune or take three days to make.

So, here, in no particular order, are a few of the blogs we love the most.

  1. Smitten Kitchen | smittenkitchen.com We love the tagline of Smitten Kitchen: fearless cooking from a tiny NYC kitchen. Deb Perelman, who runs the blog, describes her recipes as “comfort food stepped up a bit.” There’s everything from breads and desserts to side dishes and soups. Smitten Kitchen is a favorite of our founder, Mandy, because the recipes are thoughtful, tested, straightforward and, best of all, never fail. “The blueberry muffins are the best!” Mandy says. (Also, try the zucchini butter spaghetti.)

  2. Sally’s Baking Addiction | sallysbakingaddiction.com Sally is a self-taught baker who wants to share what she’s learned with others. Her recipes are tested (meaning you probably won’t have a Pinterest level fail). If you’re looking for something new to bake, Sally’s Baking Addiction is a good place to start. Sally features everything from cookies to cakes and also includes baking tips as well as recipes organized by season and ingredient.

  3. Brown-Eyed Baker | browneyedbaker.com Michelle, the brown-eyed baker, wants to help people feel confident in the kitchen. Her blog is centered on approachable recipes that help you create your own family favorites. Baking is a cornerstone of the blog, and you’ll find pies, cakes and cookies galore. But you’ll also find appetizers, main dishes and more. Michelle’s white chicken chili is on Mandy’s list of recipes to try, since she’s been looking for a perfect white chicken chili recipe for years!

  4. I Am Baker | iambaker.net You've undoubtedly noticed a few links to her recipes here at The Bookery, and it's because she always seems to deliver. Run by Amanda Rettke, I Am Baker feels like stopping by Amanda's house and hanging out in the kitchen, enjoying freshly baked cookies over a hot cup of coffee. Her recipes are real and attainable and don't use ingredients you have to scour the aisles for. And everyone we've tried has been delicious! Try out a few and tell us what you're loving!

  5. My Baking Addiction | mybakingaddiction.com Run by Jamie Lothridge, My Baking Addiction began as a creative outlet and a way for Jamie to deal with the stress of her work as a middle school teacher. These days, My Baking Addiction is her job. On the blog, you’ll find down-to-earth desserts and recipes that offer simple, tasty flavors and approaches. Looking for an easy, no-fail, delicious cake to take to work? Jamie’s probably got one. Need a quick dinner that only uses one pot? Yep, that too. My Baking Addiction isn’t pretentious and it’s full of recipes that you’ll use in everyday life, not just special occasions.
