Oh, the places your mind will go

So I’ve written about my dreams on this blog before. And while last night’s wasn’t a whole crazy scenario that involved ball gowns, pink cell phones, or me as an undercover cop, but it was pretty hilarious when I reflected on it this morning.
First of all, before I relay this tale, know this: I am exhausted. (Sorry, Mindy!) I know that I need to sleep uninterrupted for much longer than I have been. At some point this will catch up with me. Right now, it’s just making me sleepy as I drive to work and leaving me contemplating closing my office door and taking a nap on the floor in the afternoons.
On to the dream, which may have been influenced by my state of tiredness. Last night, I dreamed that I was singing at a wedding. OK, this wasn’t that weird. I have sung at weddings, namely my brother’s, but those are mostly small deals in my hometown. Last night, I dreamed I was singing in a wedding here in Nashville at my church. But that wasn’t all, I was singing at a wedding as part of a small ensemble/choir. Now I know some people have small groups sing at their weddings, but few have entire 15-person ensemble/choirs. This is the first thing that made me laugh.
Then came the part of the dream in which I was getting ready for the wedding. For some reason, we were getting ready at the church. Because the singers so do that for weddings (OK, not in my experience). Mindy was there, also singing in the choir. We had to wear black dresses (and black suits, for the guys, I guess). I put on this dress that A)I would never own and B) was really hideous. And I liked it! It had a cowl neck, long sleeves, and went down to my ankles. And there was a big, wide brown leather belt in the middle. And it was made out of double knit or some other incredibly hot and not so attractive material. Dream Mandy decided she was not going to wear this dress and went home to find another.
While I was at home, I decided to do my makeup. And Dream Mandy followed suit of Real Mandy and wanted to look good while singing at the wedding. In the dream, I put on eyeliner WAY crooked and just left it. How that made me look hot, I don’t know. Also, know that at this point in the dream, I suddenly had LONG hair. Like as long as it was when I was a sophomore in high school and it hit the small of my back. I start trying to fix said hair, look at the clock, and realize I have to go. I have 20 minutes to get the church for the start of the wedding. Dream Mandy was then very jealous of Dream Mindy, who she knew was at the church on time and wasn’t worrying about her makeup at all.
Dream Mandy ended up pulling her hair back in a very unattractive style and running out the door: bad hair, messed up makeup, and a black dress that was hopefully better than the cowl necked wonder I’d worn earlier in the dream.
In the end, the dream wedding went off without a hitch. And in case you’re wondering, the dream ensemble/choir sounded great.
