Monday morning musings

On a beautiful Monday morning without a chance of rain (a rarity these days!) getting ready for work wasn’t too awful high on my list of things I wanted to do. But I persevered, people, and I’m here. And the work will start. . . .in a few minutes. After coffee and donuts. And no, I’m not lying about that! With all this in mind, I thought I’d give you a short overview of the things that are running through my head this morning. Don’t be scared!

• Why was traffic so bad this morning? Were people really in that big of a rush to get to work? At 6:30 a.m.?

• Why in the world did my EIC and I decide to hold a focus group meeting tonight of all nights, when all I really want to do is go to my friend Brandon’s, eat pizza, hang out, pet the puppies, and watch basketball? I mean really?

• My brackets are screwed. For someone who did so well up until now, I’m lamenting the fact that UNC and Tyler Hansbrough let me down. To KANSAS, for crying out loud! Whom I detest with every molecule in my body. KANSAS! Tyler, you’re a great guy and stuff, and from Poplar Bluff which is near my hometown (that’s where we go to a movie theater with more than 2 screens!), and I’m proud of you for going to a big school and making a name for yourself and all, but your team lost to Kansas. My arch enemy. I’m thinking that maybe for the time being, we’re on a break. Or you might be dead to me. I haven’t decided yet

• DVR is great. It still cracks me up that everyone says it’s going to “change my life.”

• The Dish Network installer guy cracked me up. Who would have thought that an afternoon spent with a complete stranger would be that much fun? He was from Iowa, I’m from Missouri; we had a lot to talk about. And he sang to me. And thought I was about 20 years old. This made me feel like promoting the use of moisturizer again

• I worry about and pray for my friends much more than any of them realize. Who has a job, who doesn’t, who’s dealing with rough stuff, who’s handling stress in unhealthy ways. Yeah, if it sounds like you, I’m probably praying for you. (That’s a good thing.)

• I actually like coffee black now. I didn’t think that would ever happen. But that cafe au lait I made on Saturday morning actually rocked my world.

• A vacation would be nice. Any suggestions?

• I’m officially declaring my Best Buy-supplied refurbished iPod dead to me. It doesn’t work right and is slightly, well, broken. So iPod nano, here I come. Someday, you know when I’ve put aside the money for you. And then I’m getting that Nike+ system because it’s the coolest thing ever and James Jackson (a guy I work with, sort of) loves his. And sold me on it. So, basically, I’m coveting. That’s just great!

• I’ve got to go make handout copies, model release copies, and gather all the stuff for tonight’s focus group. So enjoy your Monday!
