I really know how to pick ’em

At least that’s how my mom would say it.
See, sometimes, I show a remarkable lack of good sense in decision-making. For example, let’s talk about my choice in guys. I tend to fall for the ones who: A. aren’t good for me at all or B. don’t have any interest in me other than being a friend. Yeah, I’m that girl.
On a more practical level—or at least the reason for this beautiful story—is how my bad selection skills played out on my flight home yesterday. See, we were flying Southwest, which is generally fine. The flight to Baltimore wasn’t very full and most of the middle seats were open. Good times. The flight back, though, wasn’t the same kind of deal. It was FULL. So I, of course, had to sit in a middle seat.
So there I am, shuffling down the center aisle of the plane, searching for a seat. I’m looking for people who don’t look too clingy, weird, chatty, or smelly to sit between. Finally, I choose one unsuspecting pair and slip into the middle seat.
Guys, I chose WAY wrong. Dude on my right got out his chewing tobacco early in the flight, stuffed it in between his lip and jaw and spit into a bottle for most of the rest of the flight. Is that even legal? Lady on my left took up way too much room and refused to make eye contact. Now I understand that she didn’t want to chat. Me neither. But when your thigh is touching mine for an almost two hour flight, I’m thinking the least you could manage is a little eye contact. Or a hello. Or something other than staring straight ahead and pretending I did not exist. Because I do exist. And it was my BIRTHDAY!
Did I mention that chewing/spitter guy on the right also was an arm rest hog? So was stoic woman on the left. So I was stuck in the middle with no arm rests. Fun times. I organized my notes for a meeting today and actually pulled out my Bible and did some studying. I don’t think either of them were keen on that.
Oh, well! The traveling is over. Until October 30. When I go to Pittsburgh!
(And the birthday was great! Thanks to all the well wishers here and on Facebook. And for Mindy and Rachel (and Muffin) who decorated my house. And Mindy, Rachel, Janice, Jason, Buddy, and Scott (oh, and Kirk and Julianne) who gathered for cake and ice cream before choir. And the choir and orchestra for a resounding version of happy birthday. With cymbals. 🙂
