I realize this is weird.

I’m going to admit to something I’ve been holding out on you guys about. Something I haven’t talked about because I realize it’s a wee bit weird.

And it has to do with this commercial for Land O’Frost lunchmeats. (Also, I hate the word “lunchmeat” and I have no idea why.)

Anyway, that commercial about the kid who becomes a superhero grosses me out.

Why, you ask? Well, in my mind, here’s this Harry Potter-looking annoying kid who decides to use the pounds of Land O’Frost lunchmeats as weights. He lifts them. He straps them to his ankles and wears them all over the place. He does all sorts of exercise-y things with numerous pounds of lunchmeat. And the whole time, all I can think is how that can’t be sanitary and he’s walking around with the packages of meat strapped to him and they’re getting all room tempature and stuff. I mean, in time, that meat is not going to be fit to eat, all because this weird kid failed to refrigerate it and used it as exercise equipment. The whole thing just strikes me as gross and highly unsanitary and possibly helping to breed bacteria in the lunchmeat that the family is still presumedly eating.

I know this is stupid. I know that I have put way too much thought into a commercial that isn’t even that good. But it just seems to me, it would be better to tout the taste, flavor, or yumminess of your food product in your commercial if you’re a company that makes food products. I’d rather see the kid eating a sandwich made from a nice slice of cool, refrigerated, non-bacteria laden turkey than watching him tie packages of the lunchmeat onto bars and lift them like weights. The commercial seems to send a little bit of a strange message: Our food isn’t good enough to eat, but it is good enough to serve as exercise equipment. (Yes, I get that they COULD be saying that by eating their product, you will be healthier, but still, it’s just dumb. And gross. And I don’t like it.)

Also, I can’t stand that kid’s haircut.

See, I told you this was weird. 🙂
