Go ahead and lead me on

I have a song stuck in my head.

This song to be exact:

That’s local singer/songwriter Charlie Worsham, and he was a part of my friend Buddy’s house concert on Saturday night. When Buddy started planning the house concert, he asked me to help with the food, and somehow it became me doing most of the food. I have to admit, by Saturday night, my life had been so busy and I was so focused on making sure the food and everything was ready to go that I kind of forgot about what was going to happen next. That some of my favorite local singer/songwriters were actually going to play and sing in Buddy’s living room.

And then the concert started. And I had nothing else to do but sit there and listen and let the music slide over and around me.

And it turned in to one of those nights full of good memories and fun times and that feeling you get (or at least I do) when you realize you’re a part of a great musical experience and you can’t believe that you get to be there. Beautiful night, beautiful songs, great musicians and all-around nice guys. I can’t wait to see what happens next for each of them—and for the next house concert Buddy is already planning.

But now, I’ve got Charlie’s songs stuck in my head, particularly “You can’t break what’s broken.” And that’s not a bad thing, because Charlie’s amazing.

It’s just that I want to sing the lyric “go ahead and lead me on” all the time . . . and that’s just not something that’s appropriate to say to everyone you know!
