Give a little

Haiti Donate Online

These past few days it’s been a little surreal to me that on Tuesday afternoon when I was running on a treadmill at the gym, a little angry because I didn’t like the movie showing on the big screen and things in life weren’t going exactly as I’d wished, the people of Haiti were enduring an earthquake that threatened their very existence. There I was, so blessed, and I didn’t even realize it.

I don’t think we really have a concept of the poverty in Haiti. And honestly, I haven’t been able to look at most of the pictures. I can’t imagine that devastation. That level of sorrow. Bodies on the streets. No lights, water, food. That awful, numbing, gnawing feeling of not knowing if people you love are safe or alive. The fear. The lingering question of what to do, how to go on.

The people of Haiti have been in prayers lately. I keep seeing the faces of those sweet children in orphanages. I can’t get them out of my mind. So, today, readers, I encourage you to pray for the people of Haiti. Pray for those who are working in the relief effort and ministry efforts currently taking place. Pray for those who are searching and scared, who feel lost and alone amid the rubble. And most of all, pray for God’s glory to be displayed. Because He can even redeem this.

But, if it’s possible, I also encourage you to give. Recently, I’ve come to realize on an even deeper level that God has given me everything I have. That means that I’m called to use the resources He gives me to do His work and to show the world in tangible ways that He does love them. If I have the resources to meet a need, I want to act. So, I’m donating to the Haiti relief effort through Compassion International. UNICEF, the Red Cross, World Vision, and others are also offering legitimate ways to give to help the people of Haiti. If we’ve ever had a chance to give “unto the least of these,” this is it.

So join me in praying, and, if it’s possible for you, giving.
