Dispatches

(It’s Monday. It’s all I can manage today!)

• I look like a member of the Cardinals Crew today. You know, the girls who hang out with Fred Bird and dance on top of the dugouts at Cardinals games. I wore khakis and my Cardinals polo because it was easy and something I knew matched. Then I looked at myself in the mirror. Stadium worker all the way. I think I should start dressing in themes. Maybe tomorrow I’ll be a flight attendant. What do you guys think?

• Where in the world did all the crazy people come from on the interstate this morning? It was crowded, I tell you, crowded. And there was the “guy who wants to drive the actual speed limit instead of going with the flow of traffic” two cars in front of me. Not fun. All I can figure out is that Metro Davidson County schools started back today. . . .and parents are all going back to work? Well, whatever the case, please people. Learn to drive.

• I live in South Nashville. Yes, I admit this. Every morning I watch the local news while I’m getting ready for work. . . and every morning they report on some crime that has happened in South Nashville. Generally, none of them are anywhere near my humble abode, but it’s kind of become a joke with me. “Oh, there was a robbery? Must be South Nashville.”

• I’m really perturbed that the only song radio stations seem to be playing of My Morning Jacket’s new album is that “I’m Amazed” song. Because there are other songs on the album. Why don’t we play some of them so listeners can develop a more well-rounded idea of what My Morning Jacket sounds like? Come on!

• I made snickerdoodles this weekend. No, they do not involve Snickers. They are amazing, though. And I can’t stop eating them. Please, someone do an intervention.

• A guy I know is hosting his own “fun run” on October 25. What started as a personal marathon for him since he wasn’t getting to run Chicago like he wanted to (cause he got his wife pregnant), has turned into a run of epic Michael Scott proportions. He’s got most of the church staff running, friends from here at work, and a couple of kids. You can run a marathon, half marathon, 10K , 5K. I think I’m going to go for a 10K. Training starts today. And the bonus: he’s making T-shirts, a la The Office “Run for the Cure.”

• Today is my brother and sis-in-law’s first anniversary! Congratulations! (They never read this blog that I know of!) But even so, I send them my love and prayers. And eagerly await the arrival of Eli in November. When I become “Best Aunt Mandy.” Because the title “aunt” simply isn’t enough. So, gaze at this picture of the happy couple on their wedding day and send good thoughts their way.
