Dispatches

Ah, dear ones. It has been a week. A really long week.

But there’s the promise of the weekend, live music with friends tonight, Upward with my girls tomorrow, and I don’t have to get up extremely early tomorrow morning! Yay!

Despite the fact that this week seems like a total loss in so many ways—I haven’t gotten much accomplished at work; I had a 4 hour commute on Wednesday; my house is a mess—I’ve actually learned a lot this week. So let’s get started with “Dispatches”! I apologize, because you’re about to enter the randomness that is my brain. . .

• Running socks are really important. I bought running socks one day, thinking, “This is silly. Regular socks should be fine.” Umm, yeah. I was dumb. Running socks are amazing. I ran without mine yesterday, and I regretted it about 1 minute into the run. My favorite running socks really fit tightly around the arch of my foot and have padding at the heel. They wick sweat away. They protect my foot and I haven’t gotten blisters while wearing them. But they’re expensive. . . so if you’d like to start a fund to buy me some that don’t have holes in the toes, I’d definitely appreciate it.

• When you’re stuck in the car for four hours only getting to move about 3 inches every 6 or 7 minutes (and top speeds are under 5 mph), you can get really bored. You can start a story on your Facebook status and your really strange friends will play along. The result is an entertaining story full of weirdness. . . and in my case, an albino monkey.

• Stop and go traffic does nothing for the mileage on a hybrid car. My car tells me how many miles to the gallon I’m getting at any point. I pride myself on trying to get the highest MPG possible. It’s kind of like a game. And prior to Wednesday’s traffic snow/gridlock, I was getting something like 38 mpg. After the 4 hour commute? 28 mpg. I was mad because even normal cars get that kind of mileage!!!!!

• I have named my car. Patricia Jean. If you can figure out who/what that’s in reference to, I’ll give you a pat on the back.

• I bought the Civil War’s latest album, Barton Hollow, digitally and on vinyl. The more I listen, the more I like it. Especially on vinyl. I bought it on Tuesday afternoon and sat in my living room that night listening to it. I feel like I’ve gone back in time when I do that. Maybe I’ll start listening to the Opry on the radio and feel like I’m my grandparents.

• I made a new brownie recipe last night: fudge brownies with sea salt. I give them two thumbs up and you’ll likely see the recipe on here next week. If you like brownies that still have some sort of gooeyness to them, these are the ones for you. Very fudgey!

Anyway, have a happy Friday and a great weekend! See you on Monday 🙂
