Oh. My. Word! It’s time for “Dispatches” again! Didn’t I just do this?
Oh, well. I know that you’re all waiting on bated breath. That this is the perfect way to start your Wednesday mornings. (I started typing Monday, which just tells you a bit about my week!) I know that you secretly love you some “Dispatches” and share them with all your friends. You don’t call me lazy for writing them since they take zero to no effort. You don’t skip over them and hope I write something thoughtful and thought-provoking. Or do you?
Well, who cares. “Dispatches” is what you’re getting today. Let’s roll:
• Yesterday, I learned that the city of Franklin was having a funeral for a Civil War soldier whose body was recently uncovered when a Panera was being built. (Yeah, I don’t know any particulars, but that’s the story I’ve heard.) The funeral is on Saturday at a church in downtown Franklin, and it’s for an Unknown Soldier, since there really isn’t any way of identifying the man. Today, I heard on the news that there is going to be a memorial service for Meriwether Lewis (of Lewis and Clark) and it’s supposedly somewhere near here. Apparently, when he died (and there’s some controversy about cause of death) he never had a memorial. Does is make me weird that I kind of want to go to the funeral for the Civil War soldier on Saturday?
• Today, I had to put air in one of my tires. That’s about as auto-mechanical as I get. Wait, I once put windshield wiper fluid in my car. And I did check the oil . . . once. And just for the record, I don’t think you should have to pay to put air in your tires.
• My alma mater (Mizzou) plays Nebraska in football this Thursday on a national stage. Former quarterback (and Saints practice team QB) will be on there (or so said his Twitter). So will the ESPN crew. And I will go on the record as saying I dislike the Cornhuskers immensely. I will likely be at Bible study during the game, but do plan to watch some of it later on. But Pam and Jim are also getting married on “The Office,” and I think it’s my duty to be there for that, too. Seriously, as much as I’ve invested in that relationship, they should at least give me a piece of cake.
• It’s a week and a half before I go on vacation! VACATION! New England, here I come. I can only imagine how much fun the Northerners are going to make of my and Mindy’s accents. Oh, well. We’ll survive.
• Because of vacation and such, I’m fairly overloaded at work right now. It doesn’t help that I’m also trying to lead the Fellowship Committee at work to plan our Christmas party for this year. Yesterday, I was doing OK, until a coworker came in with the intention to help me get things organized so we had a plan. I was actually fine with that and think that’s a good idea. I sort of got impatient with the long discussion we had to have about it. I understand why we need the plan; I like the plan; I need to work so that said plan can be achieved. I said “I need to work” I don’t know how many times. I’m not angry or upset, it’s just that when I think about all the work that has to get done, my response is to work as hard as possible on getting it completed. The plan is good, but discussing it to death is not!
• On Monday night, I dreamed about scary things. Last night, I did too—but not really. I dreamed that I somehow accidentally cut off a big section of my hair. It was weird, but oddly it didn’t look that bad!
OK, off to work. I’ve got enough to do! I’m sure you all do. I hope you all have wonderful Wednesdays! 🙂
