Dispatches!

Ah, yes, it’s Wednesday. The traditional day for “Dispatches.” Were you so excited that you couldn’t sleep last night?

(I like to pretend you were. Don’t ruin this for me.)

Ahem. Anyway, let’s go!

• Next week, I have to get a headshot done for something the marketing department here is doing. What they’re doing, I really don’t know. And while I know that your outfit doesn’t necessarily show very much in a headshot, I also know that feeling good in what you’re wearing makes for a better picture. And I’ve chosen unwisely in other pictures. So, what should I wear? Suggestions? Things I shouldn’t wear? It’s also too bad that I’m getting my hair cut the day AFTER the shoot. That’s so like me.

• Sometimes, I listen to a Christian radio station on my way to work. I have a strange relationship with Christian music because I think that of all music, that produced by Christians should be of the highest quality and sometimes what’s on CCM just isn’t. But there are some good artists out there doing great stuff, I like the morning show on this station, and sometimes, I need to listen to that music to help focus me as I drive to work. Today, the morning show crew was discussing a question of ethics. Basically, it was something like this: You’re at a hotel and hungry, so you get the Oreos from the mini bar. But before you check out of the hotel, you replace the Oreos with some you bought elsewhere. The question was, is this wrong? My immediate response was yes. It’s stealing. When you take something from a hotel mini bar you’re agreeing to pay the price they’ve set for the item whether you think it’s a fair price or not. To take the cookies with the intent of replacing them is also something you’re doing with the intention of deceiving. So to me, the answer was very clear: it’s wrong. I was suprised by the number of people who called in (presumedly Christians) who called in to rationalize the decision. Many said it was OK because the hotel was overcharging you anyway. In my mind, it doesn’t matter. Your thoughts?

• I am thoroughly creeped out by the trailers for the movie Shutter Island. While suspense and mystery are things I enjoy, this one seems to take things into the realm of WAY creepy. Sometimes, I hide my eyes when the trailer comes on. Also, Leonardo DiCaprio’s accent kind of hurts my ears. I am oddly excited about Valentine’s Day with its amazingly large ensemble cast. I figure it’s going to be good or really, really bad. Either way, I kind of really want to see it.

• It’s Valentine’s Day time and I need some SweetTart hearts. Anybody seen them around? I couldn’t find any last year and it led to extreme depression. (OK, that’s an exaggeration, but I really like SweetTarts.)

• I’m eating my morning snack/second breakfast. Cheese and crackers, anyone?

Sorry this is so short (and late) today. I had chapel at work. Here’s to a happy Wednesday!
