Ah, yes, my dears. It’s time for “Dispatches.” And you know you’ve been waiting all week for this. I mean, it’s more exciting than fireworks and cook-outs, right?
OK, so it’s not. But it’s what you’re getting today!
• I’m working from home today! Yay! And yesterday when I still had that terrible headache, I went to bed at 9 p.m. Well, to be completely honest, I got in bed before 9 p.m., but I was watching a rerun of Iron Chef America that I hadn’t seen before and wanted to see if Iron Chef Symon won (he did). Then, at 9 p.m., I took some ibuprofen, turned off the TV and went to bed. And slept for 9 hours. It was awesome. I was even in a good mood when Alisha got here to run, even if I was going to go run.
• In my “home office” (which is really my guest bedroom with a desk in it. . . ) I have these sticky notes I picked up in the dollar aisle at Target awhile back. Some are Smurfette and say “It’s not easy being beautiful” (which it’s not—HA!) and the others have Papa Smurf and say “Who’s your daddy?” That one makes me laugh really hard!
• I am working from home which means this: no makeup, no shoes, my hair isn’t even dry. It’s awesome!
• I’m planning to go to Musician’s Corner at Centennial Park in Nashville tomorrow afternoon, provided it’s not raining. Some of my friends seem sort of bleh on the idea, but free music and Mindy Smith is one of the performers. Oh, well. I think Mindy will at least entertain the notion of going with me! 🙂 (Talk about guilt trips, right?)
• Last night I decided to purge some things out of the “record” list on my DVR. Gone: LOST, America: The Story of Us, How I Met Your Mother, and Memphis Blues (that’s a new series on TNT that I tried to like simply b/c I live in Tennessee and like Jason Lee and liked the idea that he would be singing on the show some, since he sings in “Almost Famous.” But I felt like the characterization of Memphis was all wrong and a little simple-minded. Then I wandered if that’s how people from other places really think Memphis is.)
• I have a mechanical pencil that I keep in my “office” at home. I’ve had it since college. AND I CAN’T FIND IT!!!!!! CALL 911!!!!
• I need to report a funny conversation I had with my brother yesterday afternoon. I was driving home from work and had stopped at the light at the intersection of Broadway and 10th Avenue downtown. I was on the phone with my brother and three Amish guys walked by. I yelled “Amish people!” (I have no idea why this excites me, but it does, every time.) My brother: Amish people? Where? Me: Right here in downtown Nashville. I see them every once in awhile. They have the long beards and everything. My brother: Are you sure it’s not just ZZ Top? Me: Um, no. . amid laughter.
• I think I had a migraine this week, which was the first time anything like that has happened since I the summer before 7th grade (I have a very specific memory of the last one and can date it to that summer b/c my grandpa was alive and he passed away the following fall). I used to have a little bit of the “aura” stuff back then, but this week’s aura was different than back then. It looked like heat rising off the pavement or shimmering all around the edges of my vision and it would get better and worse. Then I had a bad headache. Bleh. Feeling better now after a lot of sleep.
Well, I realize this is kind of short, but I’ve got things to do, people. And I need second breakfast. Which is a second piece of toast and some coffee (with a little milk and sugar). Be jealous. Be very jealous.
