It’s 2011. It’s time to get this year up and running.
That’s right.
It’s time for the first “Dispatches” of 2011. You know that you’ve missed these notes from the weird, remote places of my mind. Don’t deny it!
Anyway, it’s what you’re getting today. So if you haven’t missed them. . . .don’t read this!
• I had Monday off because we get New Year’s Day as a holiday and since it fell on a Saturday, we got Monday off. Things I learned on Monday: nothing good is ever on TV while I’m at work, running without stretching after not hanging out with Running for 2 months is a BAD idea, and sleeping in is an amazing gift.
• Has anyone ever seen the Nate Berkus show? Because I watched about 10 minutes of it on Monday when I was waiting on Jeopardy! to come on. It’s a talk show. Hosted by Nate Berkus. And it’s weird. I don’t know how to feel about it.
• I had so much that had to get done today that coming in early seemed like the best plan of action. So I got here at 6:45 a.m. And I’m not going to lie: the $5 Starbucks gift card my friend Buddy gave me was a nice treat this morning.
• So, as I discovered in today’s early morning commute, it’s DARK at 6:15 a.m. When will it start getting lighter?
• I’m working on my list of books to read this year. I know I’m going to return to some old favorites: Jane Eyre, Persuasion, Pride and Prejudice all will likely be on the list. Last year was a year in which I did not read one Jane Austen book and I missed her. I’m also thinking Gone with the Wind will make a return, simply because it’s been a long time since I’ve read the book and I got a really nice hard cover copy at a used bookstore this summer.
• If you want to have a happy dog, buy this blanket (or one very similar to it) from Bass Pro Shops. You’ll have to shoo the dog off of it to be able to use it.
Well, I have an hour until my next meeting and much to do. Have a happy Friday, all!
