All these words

Talk to me long and you’ll know I love words. Big ones. Little ones. Hard to pronounce ones. I love the joy of stringing words together in a sentence that describes perfectly what you’re feeling. I love the precision of finding that word that just says it all. I’m enamored by books, grammar, and writing. I love words. And most of all, I love words set to music. I’m the girl who reads the liner notes all the way through, including the thank-yous. I’m the person who ponders what this phrase means, why it’s important he sang this and not that, and thinks about the writing process. I love the perfectly turned lyric.
That’s why I wanted to share a few lyrics that are my favorites right now. My musical taste is a little eclectic, and weighted toward the singer/songwriter, so bear with me!
“I kiss her mouth and I know for everything there is a word. For everything but this.” —Ryan Adams in “Crossed-out Name” on Cardinology
“All I know is that I was blind but now I see that though I kick and scream, Love is leading me. And every step of the way his grace is making me; with every breath I breathe, he is saving me. And I believe.” —Andrew Peterson in “The Good Confession (I Believe) on Resurrection Letters: Volume II
“ And the truth has a habit Of falling out of your mouth” —Glen Hansard in “Leave” (written with Damien Rice, apparently)
“What parts of you were daydreams, illusions, and other things” —Ryan Adams in “Natural Ghost” on Cardinology
“I don’t know you But I want you All the more for that.”—Glen Hansard (and Marketa Irglova?) in “Falling Slowly”
“I have cursed the man that you have made me, as I have nursed the beast that bays for my blood. Oh, I have run from the one who would save me. Save me, Hosanna!” —Andrew Peterson in “Hosanna” on Resurrection Letters: Volume II
“I could’ve treated you better Better than this Well, I’m gone, this song’s your letter Can’t stay in one place” —Joshua Radin in “What If You” on We Were Here
“I need to be bold Need to jump in the cold water Need to grow older with a girl like you”—Joshua Radin in “I’d Rather Be with You” on Simple Times
“See the world Find an old fashioned girl And when all’s been said and done It’s the things that are given, not won Are the things that you want”—Gomez in “See the World”
That’s all I’ll post for today. Share some of your faves in the comments. Or, you know, just comment!
