A couple of tirades and some general rambling

So tomorrow around 12:30 p.m., I’ll take off on my American Airlines flight to Dallas! Kelly’s getting married, y’all! I’ll get there, supposedly, around 2:45 p.m., find Natalie and Emily (my two college friends who are picking me up), pick up another girl, and get back to the hotel right about the time to leave for Kelly’s bachlorette party.
Yep, bachlorette party. You guys know I hate bridal showers and such (esp. when games are involved), but when it’s your friend, you kind of make it less about you and more about her. So, a bunch of girls are going out to eat, having some dessert (b/c we’re GIRLS!), and going back to someone’s house for a lingerie shower. Which is the bridal shower idea I hate the most. But that’s a tirade I won’t get into here. I’ll just say this: should I ever get married, DO NOT throw me a lingerie shower. Do not disguise it by calling it a “personal shower,” which just makes it more icky to me. And should you throw me a regular shower, DO NOT play dippy shower games. OK, that sort of was a tirade. . .
While we’re speaking of tirades, I had to go to Victoria’s Secret yesterday b/c of said bachlorette/lingerie shower. (I apologize in advance for this tirade, guys.) I have one new caveat for you high school girls with boyfriends: DO NOT take them into Victoria’s Secret to shop for underwear with you. I know you think you’ll be together forever, but this is not appropriate. You’re acting out a much more serious relationship than you probably have (playing house syndrome, as I like to call it), and you’re making things kind of tough on the guy. So, just DON’T. That is all. (Sorry, guys!)
In other news, I am a bit taken aback by the US Airways plane crashing into the Hudson River yesterday. Maybe I wouldn’t be so shaken if I wasn’t flying tomorrow, but still. That was a miracle that no one was badly injured or died. Wow! (Also, links to some interesting techy news about this event: it was first reported on Twitter (which is how I learned about it) and nearly took out Twitpic.)
I *gasp!* probably will not be taking my computer with me to Dallas. I’ll only be there for one full day, really, and I want to spend time with people I haven’t gotten to see that much lately. And I won’t have that much time, I don’t think. I will—cross your fingers—have my new phone by then, and may stay up to date on Facebook with it (MAYBE), but I don’t want to drag my Macbook all over the country when I’m not really going to use it. I need a break from computers and technology anyway! I will probably come back with some great stories to tell, especially if I end up having my own version of the movie The Terminal in DFW on Monday. My new plan is to see if I can fly standby and get on an earlier flight. If that fails, I got some über-helpful info on a train to Dallas. If I could go see Dealey Plaza, that would be cool.
All that said, I’m ready to get to work in the bitter Nashville cold. My plan is to work really hard this morning and see if I can leave a bit earlier this afternoon so I can get a prescription filled and finish the packing I started last night, but abandoned for the new episode of “The Office.” Is it too cold to go do something fun tonight? Anyone interested?
So have a good weekend, all! And if you do get incredibly lonesome for me (aww!), you can CALL you know. It’s this thing people used to do, you know, before Facebook.
