Hooray for rain!

It may seem like a strange thing to be so excited about, but I’m loving this morning’s rain! Here’s a few reasons why: • For those of you who love geography, here’s some info: Nashville sits in a bowl of sorts, with higher elevations all around. What does this mean, you ask? Well, it means that come spring when all the pollen and blooms come out to play. . . .they get stuck here. For the last few weeks, our houses, our cars, our patio furniture, even some slow moving Tennesseans have been covered in a lovely layer of greenish yellow pollen. Today’s rain is a step toward washing away the pollen. . .and all that sneezing I’ve been doing!
• It’s just lovely to wake up and lie under the ceiling fan next to the open window and listen to the rain.
• This reason just has nominal ties to rain: There’s a great Marc Broussard song with the lyric “There’s a soft sweet spot at the back of your neck that smells like rain.” I just love it. (And yes, Mindy, I would let Marc Broussard smell the back of my neck at any time. No, not THAT Marc Broussard!) PS: Marc also gets bonus points for the lyrics: “sensual salvation” and “holiest temptation” in this song.
• Everything smells clean after a rain.
• It’s a tad cooler in the upstairs of my condo (this is a problem because I refuse to turn on the air conditioner yet! I’m cheap! [Yes, I’m aware my coworkers told me that was not a word I should use to describe myself!])
• My windshield wipers get to fulfill their destiny of actually wiping rain away (rather than a futile attempt to clean off the pollen and bug encrusted windshield.)
• Slightly cooler temps!
• I don’t have to stand in my flowerbed with my bright yellow garden hose and water the flowers.
• People get to work a little later, so I have a little more time to myself this morning!
• Did I mention the pollen’s getting washed away?
• Muffin doesn’t tarry long outside.
• And finally, a lower pollen count! 🙂
